Hearing the Voices of Young Leaders in Europe

The ULI Europe Young Leaders group saw a considerable increase in membership—growing from just over 670 members before the pandemic to over 1,100 members in June 2021—which highlights the value that real estate professionals aged 35 and under saw in being part of the ULI network. New initiatives have been spearheaded by the ULI Europe Young Leaders Executive Committee, including the launch of a new annual podcast series.

The ULI Europe Young Leaders Committee (made up of future leaders of the built environment) chose to feature 10 rising stars and launch an accompanying new podcast series, ULI’s New Real Estate Vanguard, in 2021. These included individuals who are already shaping the future of the industry with their bold and innovative ideas, and they will certainly have a major future impact on the communities in which we live.

The podcast series was hosted by Andrea Carpenter, director of Women Talk Real Estate, and selected participants included the following:

  • Tania Azad, partner, Bohill Partners;
  • Mario Facchinetti, founder, PropTechMarket and VIEW2GO;
  • Edwina Governey, chief investment officer, Hibernia REIT plc;
  • Alice Lamb, deputy chief executive, LandAid;
  • Reza Merchant, chief executive officer and founder, The Collective;
  • Inés Miró-Sans, cofounder, Hotel Casa Bonay;
  • Adam Targowski, sustainability and innovation manager, Skanska;
  • Franz de Waal, cofounder, Freiraum;
  • Marion Waller, adviser to the mayor of Paris; and,
  • Jonathan Willén, chief executive officer, Europi Property Group.

“Our ULI Europe Young Leaders program continues to go from strength to strength with the addition of this new podcast that highlights rising stars in real estate,” says Lisette van Doorn, ULI Europe CEO. “The speakers who have been selected by the Young Leaders Executive Committee are an inspiration not only to those who are developing their careers in the industry but also for everybody in the industry. The younger generation has an important role to play in how society confronts the major disruptions we see—for example, related to climate change, decarbonization, and digitalization, and therefore we have a lot to learn from them.”
